I feel better than ever

Jason’s story:

I can’t remember when I started smoking or how old was I but, I know I was in high school. No doubt peer pressure was a huge factor in it. I was not smoking cigarettes, it was always cigars. I knew not to smoke cigarettes because it seemed like cigarettes were a stronger addiction than cigars. At first, it was nothing and I thought I’d be just as cool because there was no addiction. But, over time the addiction slowly consumed me. I found myself smoking packs a day, with all my friends while we were playing video games, riding around or just hanging out. I couldn’t stop. Not that I tried anyway. Over time I realized that the urges were uncontrollable and I found myself consistently tired way too often. I knew I had to stop. So, once my mind was made up to quit, my will grew stronger. I got tired of being sick and I was sick of being tired. I told myself that I would stop on a Sunday or Monday. Either day would suffice because it would be easier to keep track of and it would be the first day (or first working day) of the week. The first day was the hardest of all the days when I quit “cold turkey” because the cravings intensified tremendously. It was almost as if “the craving” knew what I was going to do so it kept pushing and nudging at my every thought. But, after a while, the cravings slowly started to go away and I was free of my bondage to tobacco. It’s been a little over a year now and I feel better than ever. If you are trying to quit and you fall short it’s ok. Just start over and try again. It took will power and it took courage to overcome that power of smoking but, it can be done. I encourage anyone who smoke to fight back against tobacco and just say no.
